Sound System Manager

Job Description

The Sound System Manager (SSM) oversees all sound system operations in the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall. They possess the technical skills necessary to ensure the highest quality of sound reproduction for Worship Celebrations and other events. The SSM has extensive knowledge of the technical operations of sound boards, microphones and instrument connections to the sound board. The SSM has a keen ear necessary for the proper mixing of instruments and vocals. They are able to work easily with various personalities and understand their role as a manager who works with volunteers in a church setting. The SSM also works closely with the Director of Music and Worship Arts.

Duties and Hours:

Wednesdays:  7:00 pm – 10:00 pm    Praise Band & Praise Team Rehearsal        3 hrs.

Start up Sanctuary sound system and projection system.
Complete a sound check for instruments and vocals.
Operate the sound system and projection system during the rehearsal.
Shut down all systems at the conclusion of the rehearsal.
Make sure all microphones and other equipment are stored in their proper places.

Sundays:  8:00 am – 12:30 pm                                  4.5 hrs.

Sanctuary:

Start up Sanctuary sound system and projection system.
Complete a sound check for pastors, children’s moment presenter and anyone else who will be using a microphone such as a soloist.
Oversee the volunteer operation of sound system operation for 8:30 am service.
Make sure that a CD recording of the service is made.

Fellowship Hall:

8:45 am – Start up Fellowship Hall sound system and projection system.   
9:00 am – Oversee volunteer operator of Fellowship Hall sound System and projection system for praise band and praise team rehearsal.

Sanctuary:

9:30 am or earlier – Complete a sound check in the Sanctuary for all instruments and vocals.
9:45 am – Oversee and/or operate sound system and projection system for the service.   
11:00 am – Oversee and/or operate the sound system and projection system for the service.
Shut down all systems at the conclusion of the service.
Make sure that CD’s and DVD’s of the services are taken to the Secretary’s office.

Also, make sure systems are shut-down in the Fellowship Hall.   


The SSM is responsible for the necessary training of volunteers, developing procedures and keeping them updated and will be compensated according to hours worked to accomplish this.

If the SSM operates systems for weddings, funerals, or other events other than those previously mentioned, they will be compensated at their regular hourly rate.
